The
Le Vin Family Wine Business has been in existence since 1983, originally founded by Bernard Levin now going back 4 generations of winemaking. Bernard was a friend of Stephen Zellerbach, whom he knew from the Actors Workshop at the Marines Memorial Theater in San Francisco and from the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House where Bernard worked. Bernard and Ellen Levin were friends of Charmian London in the 1940's and visited her at the Jack London's Beauty Ranch on weekends.
Bernard and his son Eric Levin began making award winning wines at Zellerbach Winery in 1983. In 1985 Le Vin Cellars received its first Gold Medal for its Cabernet Sauvignon at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. In 1987 Le Vin Cellars wines were distributed in Japan. In 1993 the Levins and the Harmans purchased this beautiful 164 acre ranch in Cloverdale, that is today Le Vin Winery & Vineyards. The Levins and the Harmans met in 1954 at a family picnic. Le Vin Winery & Vineyards planted 5 acres of Merlot, 5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 3 acres of Cabernet Franc, 3 acres of Syrah, 250 olive trees and 125 redwood trees. Today they also have other varietals in their vineyards, including Zinfandel, Primitivo, Sauvignon Musque', Grenache, Mourvedre, and Petite Sirah.
In 1999, Le Vin Winery & Vineyards released its' first Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Estate Merlot harvested from their beautiful 14 acres of vineyards. The Le Vin highland mountain vineyards rise up 1550 to 1900 feet above sea level, closer to the sun and above the fog, which results in the full and delicious wines that have made the Le Vin wines so loved and sought after.
Jesse Hall, Eric's son, now helps with the winemaking, and so the family tradition continues. The magic of excellent wines attracted them to manifest their vision of being able to share such excellence with others. Their tasting room is open by appointment only for private wine tastings. The girl holding the grapes in her hand on the Le Vin labels was illustrated by Stephen Haines Hall, the well known wine poster and label artist. She symbolizes the romance of wine, olive oil, delicious healthy foods, and living the good life in harmony with nature.
Yorkville Highlands Appellation is fast becoming recognized
